The Story
The Curfman Gallery, located in the Lory Student Center at Colorado State University, provides a showcase for the creations of nationally and internationally recognized artists, as well as the work of local and student artists. For more than three decades, the Student Center's diverse exhibits of varying media have offered patrons an opportunity to interact with thought-provoking art, stimulating cultures and the history of CSU.
The gallery opened following the completion of an addition to the south end of the LSC in 1968. Since that time, the gallery has played host to exhibits by artists known throughout the world and has become the premier space for exhibition of CSU student artwork. In 1985, the gallery was renamed in honor of John H. "Jack" Curfman, a talented and respected exhibit designer and CSU Professor Emeritus who has been involved with the design of every exhibit shown in the gallery since it opened.
We continue to celebrate at the Curfman Gallery with an exhibition schedule designed to highlight many of Jack's greatest accomplishments in exhibit design - the biennial CIIPE exhibition, a program unique to CSU with which Jack has been involved from the very beginning; Visual Verse, a collaboration between fibers artists and poets; the 3rd annual Art & Science Exhibition; and, finally, the annual Undergraduate Visual Arts Exhibition, featuring the work of CSU students, with whom Jack has worked side-by-side, instructed and mentored.
